"I wanted to question the notion of biophilia from an anthropocentric perspective. The museum, of which the Insectarium is part of the museological culture, is a place where humans observe things, and where nothing observes them in return. There is no reciprocity, only an asymmetrical relationship. Wherever we intervene as architects, we are very aware that defining spaces means engaging with power. It is our duty to advocate for underrepresented people or those who are not in positions of authority. This led us to the question of the insect as part of the spatial experience and to ensuring that it has an environment and a habitat—including within the Insectarium—that does not harm it in any way and does not treat it as an object." — Wilfried Kuehn
